One Year of Us

Today is our one year anniversary. It has gone by so fast and I'm a little sad that it's over. We had a wonderful weekend thanks to our families. They provided a hotel, a fabulous dinner, gifts, and some much needed relaxation time for Chris and I. We really enjoyed each other's company this weekend and remembered what we were doing this time last year. So thank you to all of are families, to all of our dear friends who stood by us on that day, and to all attendees that supported us.

Tomorrow is my first official day of summer. I have so many thoughts on what to do. I love getting things done when I have no obligation to get them done. I think that is because when I get the choice to do something, it's much more meaningful to me. I put much more work ethic and care into it. I felt this way most of the school year until about after the TAKS test. That is when I started to feel like it was my job and obligation. So I'm ready for summer and the greatness of choosing again.

Tonight Chris and I watched Food, Inc. It was CRAZY! If you have not seen this documentary, please go rent it this week. It is very eye opening and shows the reality of food industries. Most Americans know that what they eat is not great for them and know that organic foods are much better for you. But there is a whole different side of the story of food processing that we as consumers do not think about. I learned so much about how farmers and food processing workers are treated. One farmer shown in the movie made the remark that the huge food processing companies treat the workers and consumers much like they treat the idea of how animals become food. It is truly sad and scary. So we are know researching local farmers markets and organics much more seriously. And I completely understand why so many mothers are into baby organics. So bottom line is that more of our paychecks will be going to groceries every month, but money so well spent.

Tattoo Envy

We had such a great weekend! I thought I should share:

Friday - started off my weekend by taking 5 seniors to State Solo and Ensemble in Austin. I got to talk to them about their future plans and college. It was a great trip and cherished time!

We returned back home Saturday afternoon. Chris and I spent the night in downtown McKinney. We walked the square, ate outside at Spoons, then got Gelato (wedding cake is my fav!) Then fell asleep watching Deadliest Catch. This morning, we got up and had a great service at Preston Trial Community Church. The pastors let the church txt in questions and spent the sermon time answering them, Chris and I txted some in, but they never got answered.... After church we grocery shopped, napped, and went to an outdoor shopping area for some good bargins. We came home and hit the pool. I read 48 pages of Franny and Zooey then convinced Chris to come swim with me (I LOVE our pool!) Then we headed out to a Habitat for Humanity Event in McKinney. There were hundreds of people there, but it was free and the weather was great! We bought some burgers, and laid out of picnic blanket for .....wait for it.....wait for it..... a FREE Gavin DeGraw Concert!!!

Again, it was such a great weekend, and tomorrow's another day to enjoy each other and our friends without work!! One more thing to add is when at the concert tonight, I saw a girl with a tattoo that I am now stealing. It was awesome!!! More details to come, but for now I will leave you with this.... bass and treble clefs that form a heart....

COUNTDOWN!

There are only a couple of school days left until summer. It is a bittersweet moment for me. This year has flown by so fast, and I wish some of the days could slow down and I could save some memories of my students. We had an after school rehearsal today where we bring all the bands together and practice as a group. They are so awesome and have worked so hard this year. I had a moment while conducting them today where I realized that they were actually making music and I gave them the tools and knowledge to be able to. That is enough to keep me going until the end of the year.

Right now, there is a lot going on to keep me down at work. The high school band director has given his resignation and is moving 15 miles down the road to teach at a bigger school. There is tons of drama and talk that Monday will be his last day, which means I will have to carry the HS and MS band program through the rest of the year. I feel I'm being pulled in a million directors and am being forced to choose sides. In the last two days, I've had several meetings with my principal and superintendent, and I'm just trying to take it one day at a time right now. God has taught me so much this year from teaching, and so much about being my own person.

and that is something to be grateful for.

My Best Friends Wedding

It's 10am and Holly's getting married today! I am so excited and am so glad to be a part of the wedding. Taking a step back and realizing how little time has passed since our first day of HSU together makes me a tad teary-eyed. She and Paul will be moving to Lubbock to start school out there and make a new home for themselves. I hate when friends move away. Chris and I are officially moving to McKinney next weekend. Fort Worth has been my home for 23 years, and its a hard city to part from. We are still so excited about a new city, home, and life together. It's an adventure!

Off to do Matron of Honor duties......

Much needed update.

Good Morning!!! It has been quite a while since I last posted. Couple of changes..... We are now married and back from wonderful Paris. We had such a great time, and daily wish we were back there, not having to worry about real life :) We also have found where to start our lives. We we will be living in McKinney, TX, which is the halfway point between BOTH of our jobs. Yessiree, that's right, I do have a new job. I will be the head middle school band director in Whitewright ISD. I am very excited to start here! Chris started his new job yesterday, and feels its a great place for him and came home with lots of encouragement about his new opportunities there.

Lots of things happening in June for us. I have two weddings that I am in for the next two weekends. We are moving at the end of June. And just adjusting to married life as well!

My amazing one

Well, we are almost there. 53 days now. That's about 6 weeks. Things are starting to fall in place and looking like we will survive! We have been waiting and praying that  God will give us jobs before we are married and it happened! (for one of us :)) Chris got an offer to come and work with a music company called the Listening Chair in Dallas and he accepted! He's so excited. He will start in June after we're back from our honeymoon. As for me, I'm still on the hunt. I'm changing my explorations toward the Dallas area now. As far as summer goes, we are trying to stay in Fort Worth so I can continue to work at the YMCA. Our first shower is this weekend and I'm so pumped! A lot of my family is coming down from Waco. These would be my grandma's sisters and they are using their new GPS system to get here. So if anyone sees 3-4 older ladies not watching the road and looking really lost on Saturday, its probably them.

I'm off to enjoy this 80 degree weather!
